Cardiff defender nearing first team return

Cardiff City defender Sol Bamba could soon be back in the first team, according to boss Neil Harris who has issued a reassuring injury update to fans.

The centre-back has only played five minutes of first team football this season after an anterior cruciate ligament injury in March but played for the Under-23s in midweek under the watchful eye of Harris.

The new Bluebirds boss was treated to an impressive performance by Bamba and Harris told Wales Online that the Ivorian could soon be part of his first team plans.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s game against Nottingham Forest, Harris said: “Sol was excellent in the week, so I think we are coming in with the intensity I want to train at and Sol has just realised he was getting there, but maybe he needs a couple more weeks to get up to speed.

“Sol has a huge part to play within the group, every day. In the team, on the bench, not up to speed yet. Him and Sean Morrison are huge characters and leaders, every day I lean on them for their leadership qualities.”

As part of his media duties, Harris has also been making admissions about what the fans can expect in the January transfer window.

He told journalists that he thinks the squad is “too big” and that players will have to be axed in order for the club to bring in new blood.
